Building Each other Up

As Christians we are called to support one another. We are called to represent Christ; and in fact Christian means Christ-like. To be Christ-like means that in all we do we must look like Christ; this includes the words that come out of our mouth.
1. God proves that the words coming out of our mouths have great power!
Numbers 14:28:
“So tell them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the LORD, I will do to you the very things I heard you say:”
-God told Israel that I will do exactly what you say. That which comes out of your mouth will happen!
-All Israel did was complain that the desert was worse than Egypt, and that they would die there.
-That generation of people never entered into the Promised Land; they all died in the desert
-This goes to show that the words we speak has great power!
2. Jesus Warns us About the Words that we say!
Matthew 12:36-27
“But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
-Jesus is very clear here that we must watch what we say
-Jesus is telling us that we will be judged for everything we say without thinking
-Jesus here is showing that there is much power in the words that we speak!
3. There is power of life or death in our tongue!
-The Bible tells us in proverbs that there is power in the tongue to bring life or death!
-All throughout the Bible we are warned to watch what we say
-Paul in his epistles tells us that we should say things that build other people up in the Lord
-When we insult people, criticize them without reason, call them names, and poke fun at who they are: we bring death.
-As Christians we are commanded to speak things that bring life, success, and blessing.
-We must speak positive things to bring life; the other alternative, negative things, brings death
